The Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu (5 Days/4 Nights)
This trek provides a great way to get to the Lost City of the Incas while experiencing a stunning range of Andean micro-climates. Salkantay (6271m), the highest peak in the Cordillera Vilcabamba range, is at the heart of the trek, & for the first 2 days of this beautiful & at times tough expedition, it provides an awesome backdrop. During the course of the expedition, we trek through a wide range of altitudes. On day 2 we pass close to the flanks of Salkantay, & from the pass (4600m), drop through stark paramo (puna) & lush cloud forest to a sub-tropical, flower-rich jungle at around 2000m. We end up at the stunning ridge-top ruins of Machu Picchu.
